One of the biggest questions we get asked when someone orders a custom pet blanket is what kind of picture works best. The good news is that you do not need a professional camera to get an amazing custom blanket picture of your dog or cat. Most of our favorite custom pet blankets have been made from simple phone pictures taken by pet parents at home.

If you are trying to get the best custom dog blanket possible, here are some easy tips that can make a HUGE difference.

Natural lighting is everything

The best pictures of dogs and cats are almost always taken outside or near a window. Bright natural lighting helps show your pet’s exact fur colors, eye colors, and facial details which makes a huge difference when creating personalized pet blankets.

Try to avoid dark rooms, flash photography, or super blurry pictures if possible.

Get down to your pet’s level

Some of the best pictures happen when you get lower to the ground instead of taking the picture standing up. It helps capture your pet’s face better and makes the picture feel more personal.

This is especially important for custom products because your pet’s face is usually the main focus.

Make sure to include the entire pet

For most of our custom pet blankets and custom pet shirts, an emphasis on the face will do, but for our custom pet portrait blankets and shirts, we may need an image of the entire dog/cat. The ideal image would include the dog or cat sitting down with the picture taken at eye level.

Make sure at least the entire face and ears are included in the image.

Assure the image is not blurry

This is a major factor in making sure you get the best image possible for your custom pet products! Since we use your exact image for the blankets and shirts, a blurry image would cause the image on the custom products to get blurry as well.

Make sure your pet is mostly stationary when you go to take the pictures.

Don't overthink it

Honestly, some of the best pictures are the candid ones.

Funny expressions work amazing too.

Some of our favorite custom blankets have come from pets smiling, tilting their head, or sticking their tongue out.

At the end of the day, the best picture is the one that feels the most like YOUR pet.

If you are ever unsure if your picture will work for a custom pet blanket, feel free to message us. We are always happy to help pick the best one 🙂
